Climbing to the peak of Teide is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you shouldn’t miss on your visit to Tenerife
This hiking activity to climb to the peak of Teide with the Cable Car is ideal if you don’t have the time or the strength required to take on the feat from the beginning of the Montaña Blanca trail
DEPARTURE DAY:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Excursion information
With the help of the cable car and along a walk lasting approximately one hour, you will set out on a journey through the last thousand years of this volcano’s history. The upper station of the cable car is on Teide’s penultimate crater, La Rambleta, with a diameter much larger than the current crater. But 1,000 years ago, the volcano roared again, raising its height to 3,718 meters. The current Pico del Teide was then formed. This eruption was also responsible for the black lava flows that spill down its slopes.
You arrive at the crater, and the feeling of being immersed in a Martian landscape becomes even more intense. At your feet, you will contemplate the island of Tenerife and, on the horizon, almost close enough to touch with your hand, the islands of Gran Canaria, El Hierro, La Gomera, and La Palma. The smell of sulfur that envelops everything and the heat given off by the fumaroles will make you think that Guayota, the evil one, who, according to the ancient Guanches, inhabited this place, is still hiding in some volcanic cave… But they say he is submerged in a deep sleep!
